It’s Always Been the Earth for Me

Even as a young girl,
I tasted the Earth
In the dust on my tongue
The rain on my skin,
And the way bare feet met soil like an old friend.
Before I knew the word sacred,
I felt it - in trees that held silence,
in skies that listened,
In the wind that wrapped itself around me,
As though it knew.
She was my first teacher,
My first belonging,
My first medicine.
Through every version of me,
she’s stayed - unchanging in her love,
Quiet in her power,
and always, always enough.
So today, I honour her.
Not just on Earth Day
But as a living, breathing part of who I am.
Thank you, Earth,
For your patience,
Your beauty,
Your fierce grace.
I’ll keep listening.
What about you? How has the Earth been your teacher, your companion, your medicine?
