Is It Normal to Feel Anxious During Pregnancy?

Updated: Apr 17

Pregnancy is a time of transformation—a journey of love, creation, and deep surrender. But for many women, alongside the excitement comes waves of worry, uncertainty, and even anxiety. If you're feeling this, know that you're not alone.

It's natural to wonder if you’re eating the right foods, if your baby is growing well, if you’re “doing it right.” It’s natural to feel emotions more intensely, to question the unknown, to carry both joy and fear in the same breath.

But here’s what I want you to know—you are safe, and you are held.

Honouring Your Emotions

Anxiety during pregnancy is more common than you might think. Your body, mind, and soul are adjusting to an entirely new chapter. Instead of pushing away your feelings, can you meet them with kindness?

💙 Speak to your partner, your close friends, or other mothers—to be heard is to be held.

💙 If something is truly weighing on your heart, share it with your midwife or doctor. You don’t have to carry it alone.

💙 Remind yourself that your emotions do not define you, and they do not define your ability to be an incredible mother.

Will Anxiety Affect My Baby?

We live in a fast-paced world, but your body is calling you to slow down, to soften, to breathe. Chronic stress can impact your well-being, but that doesn’t mean you have to strive for perfect calm. Instead, it’s about bringing more moments of peace into your day, even in small ways.

Because when you nurture yourself, you are nurturing your baby.

Ways to Gently Ease Anxiety

🌿 Give yourself permission to rest. The world can wait—sink into a warm bath, nap, or simply sit in stillness.

🌿 Say "no" without guilt. Now is not the time to take on the world. Honour your energy, set boundaries, and allow yourself to receive.

🌿 Move your body in ways that feel good. Stretching, walking, yoga, or even a gentle sway can help move anxious energy through.

🌿 Connect with your breath. Try deep belly breathing, meditation, or soft humming—these small moments create deep shifts.

🌿 Surround yourself with love. Whether it’s a supportive friend, a healer, or a calming space, lean into what makes you feel safe.

🌿 Limit information overload. It’s easy to spiral down a rabbit hole of scary stories—come back to the present moment. Your journey is your own.

🌿 Embrace supportive rituals. A pregnancy massage, reflexology, or a Closing of the Bones ceremony can help you feel deeply held in your body.

Preparing for Birth with Ease

It’s natural to feel a mix of excitement and nerves about labour. If fears come up, meet them gently. Knowledge and support are powerful tools.

🌀 Explore birth preparation classes that resonate with you.

🌀 Speak to your doula, midwife, or a trusted guide about your birth preferences.

🌀 If financial worries arise, know that you don’t have to do it all - borrow, swap and keep it simple.

You are not just carrying a baby, you are being carried too.

Even in the messiness, even in the unknown, you are exactly where you are meant to be.

You are creating life.

You are enough. And you are already the perfect mother for your baby.

If you need support, love, or a safe space to be held in your journey, I’m here. 💙
